Where to Travel in the Fall: The 5 Destinations on My Fall Bucket List

If you’ve ever wondered where to travel in the fall in the US, this post is for you! From Seattle and Monterey on the west coast to the Catskills and Vermont on the east coast, you don’t want to miss these standout destinations and hotels.

By Memorial Day, I usually want nothing more than to be staring out at the horizon with nothing more than ocean waves and blue skies in view. Sandy toes, swimsuits, grilling– give me all the summertime feels, please and thank you. Come Labor Day, though, I want foliage. I want pumpkin spice in my pancakes and cool breezes in my morning air. I want to be able to layer my clothes and sip my hot beverages outdoors which means I’m usually craving a trip out of town. (It will be late October at best before we are doing any of the above in Austin!) Are you heading anywhere this month? If you’re looking for a fall adventure, these five hotels will remind you that the times (err, seasons) really are a changin’.

Top Notch Resort, VT: Stowe, Vermont in the fall has long been on my fall bucket list. This resort is the perfect blend of breathtaking mountain views and fun things to do nearby.

The Swag, Smoky Mountains: Once you’ve checked in, don’t plan on getting back in the car here. Everything you need is at your fingertips– mountain air, plenty of hiking and gourmet meals that will rival any where you’ve come from.

The Edgewater Hotel, Seattle: This is Seattle’s only water-front hotel. It marries the tranquility of being on the sea with the convenience of the city and everything Seattle has to offer. To be honest, though, they had us at the tartan carpet and tufted leather sofas.

The DeBruce, Catskills, New York: From the expansive views of the Willowemoc Valley and River to the clawfoot bathtubs, this spot is a holistic experience to transport you to another time and away from whatever stresses are currently ailing your day-to-day. The perfect reset as we head into the busy holiday / Q4 season.

Monterey Tides, Monterey CA: The central California Coast is one of my favorite places, but the central California Coast in the fall when the weather is cool and the air is crisp is near perfect. Cozy up, take a drive through Pebble Beach or meander around the downtown shops. This spot is perfect for a long fall weekend.

  1. All of these places look amazing!! Have you ever been to northern Michigan during the fall? I think you’d love it. I’ve always wanted to go to Mackinac Island during the fall since I’ve heard it’s gorgeous. I’ve only been during the summer.
