A couple of summers ago, Aaron and I were invited to a wedding in Charleston. Not only are we big fans of the bride and groom, but Charleston was actually on our bucket list of places to visit, so we were even more excited about these pending nuptials! It didn’t take long after our arrival to see what the fuss over Charleston was all about. The food is delicious, the people are friendly, and the architecture is beautiful and so well preserved. There is so much to see and do there! Charleston would be such a perfect weekend trip this time of year!
Check into your home away from home at the Elliott House Inn. This little bed and breakfast is nestled in the heart of the historic district of Charleston and surrounded by quaint homes, cute shops, and century old oak trees. Perfect for a weekend getaway!
A low key dinner in the private courtyard might be just right after a travel day. Get some sleep tonight!
Start your day with a short walk through the city to Black Tap Coffee— arguably the best brew in the city! Grab a quick pastry to go and keep moving!
Make your way (about a mile) down to the battery and take in the famous antebellum homes and the cool sea breeze. Continue your scenic journey up the waterfront to High Cotton for lunch. The Carolina Peach Salad is so tasty, as are the Chicken and Waffles! (Calories don’t count on vacation!)
After lunch continue to the Maritime Center and hop on a water taxi for the best views of the harbor as well as a little dolphin spotting! Once you are done exploring by sea, head over to the Preservation Society to check in for your fall architecture tour of the city and get ready to take in some of the most historically well preserved homes.
Head back to hotel and enjoy a little r & r before your dinner reservation at FIG tonight. The zucchini wrapped grouper is supposed to be out of this world!
Begin this Sunday, the only way Sundays are meant to be begun… with brunch! Head over to Magnolias for a perfectly southern send-off. Chocolate brioche french toast anyone?
Walk off those extra calories down on King Street and check out the amazing shopping selection, including the Billy Reid store (my favorite!). Just be sure you can get all of your new goodies back in the suitcase before heading out of town!
