I've had a few people comment on my capsule wardrobe posts on Instagram that they think it's interesting that their are such busy or colorful pieces in my capsule. I did a little internet sleuthing and it's true that a lot of people stick to really basic, solid pieces with capsule wardobing. I think there is this myth that you have to do that in order to be able and mix and match them to make up so many different looks within a 2 or 3 month time period, but I actually think that becomes more monotonous because you're essentially wearing the same outfits in different colors. Don't be afraid to mix prints or colors and throw in something eccentric. It's what keeps getting dressed every day in a capsule wardrobe so fun! Here are two other ways that I've worn this skirt so far this summer:
Aaron and I have been taking Parker up to The Getty on Saturday nights for a picnic dinner and to enjoy the cooler weather. I wore this look the first time we went up and now it's become my Saturday evening uniform!

I have only started reading your blog pretty recently. I love your capsule wardrobe, the fact you have personalised it adapt your life. Its also interesting that you keep it real unlike most fashion blogs where people seem to consume endlessly. New clothes and shoes every single day and most don't seem to suit everyday lifestyle. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh I'm so glad! Have you started your capsule wardrobe yet? It is definitely a learning curve. We are working on a round up of all of the looks currently and should publish in the next two weeks!

What a great skirt- it looks like a funky item I would find thrifting and wear every day in the summer. And I totally feel you about mixing prints and colors- I don't do it much myself because I'm a black-and-white-everyday kind of girl, but patterns are essential in capsules, otherwise your whole three months is a bore.

Really good point, I did double think as I thought it'd be more noticeable that i was wearing something more often, but as you say if it's a favourite that doesn't matter, I have a few things that'll probably make it through into every capsule...

Love how versatile your skirt is and love how you paired it with a graphic tee.

I love that your capsule has color in it. I wish there was even more color! To me, everyone else looks too much the same. I think Jaana at This Mom's Gonna Snap does a good job with a colorful capsule wardrobe as well.

Oh I will definitely check hers out! Thanks for the tip, Teri!
