What To Read Now || Summer 2017 Reading List

Oh, summer!  I do so adore your laid back vibe, your abundant fresh produce, and for the most part, even your balmy temperatures that beg for time spent poolside or by the lake. While summer also used to include a stack of books that I could hastily make my way through, as more things vie for my time– getting ahead with work in preparation for maternity leave, finalizing a million decisions on our new house, the entire series of The O.C. on Hulu?!– it’s definitely been more of a challenge to find time to read.  I’m determined to make it through at least a couple of these on our Summer 2017 Reading List by Labor Day, though!  When do you make time to read?  We’re thinking of planning a little Austin staycation before baby arrives at summer’s end which might just have to include some reading time by the pool.  Now which ones to choose?!  In the meantime, anyone have any weekend plans?  A sweet friend here is hosting a little baby shower for me and this growing bump tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited to spend some girls-only time with friends. Other than that, we will be enjoying family time and meal prepping for the week.  I’ve been obsessing lately with finding the most streamlined way to prep lunches and dinners and even looking out for things I can double and freeze to prepare for what will likely be a hectic August.  Hope you all have the loveliest weekend! (And please let me know if you’ve read anything you’ve loved recently!  I will make it through this list eventually!)

  3. I’ve added The Bright hour to my reading list! As always, thanks for sharing.

I’m juggling work and school so MY summer reading has been virtually non-existent!

But HERE are my favourite reads so far this summer:

Around the Way Girl by Taraji P. Henson. I flew through this memoir a few Sundays ago. Everything took a backseat to reading it! I laughed out loud, cried legit tears, and walked away changed from having read IT. beautifully-written, 100% authentic, wise, raw, UNAPOLOGETIC and so very inspiring.

Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips. This thriller comes highly recommended by the CEO of our local bookstore and it is sooooo WELL done! I was out of breath while reading it. I devoured it in 24 hours.

    Currently reading:

Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston. A gripping, devastating yet hopeful STORy about a high SCHOOL CHEERLEADER who is raped. Johnston focuses on how she deals with the aftermath and takes back control over her life. I love that she is never portrayed as a victim. A BEAUTIFUL and necessary examination of how society relates to survivors of rape.

Fitness Junkie by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza. I absolutely loved the authors’ debut novel, The Knockoff (read it twice!) So I was really looking forward to their latest. I’m happy to report it doesn’t disappoint! Laugh-out-loud funny and relatable.

Not a sound by Heather Gudenkauf. I am a HUGE fan of the author’s previous thrillers. This one gripped me from the first page.
