Preppy in the City

Preppy In The City 3

Have you noticed all of the sixties influences in fashion right now?  I was over on Camille Styles yesterday talking all things sixties fashion.  You can see it in the round-toe ballet flats with the short stacked heel, the straight swing coats à la Jackie Kennedy and the short shift dresses that are oh-so-mod!

A simple shift dress is one of the most versatile things you can have hanging in your closet.  Dress it up with a stacked heel and an embellished necklace or down with a flat shoe. I fell in love the minute I saw this J. Crew polka dot number!  (They seriously have the best mod dresses right now!)

Seeing spots… this ring is by Audra's Details.

If you’re obsessed with collared shirts like me you can always layer it over this J. Crew chambray peter-pan collar shirt.  (The real question is, what can’t I layer over this chambray shirt?)

I think half of my shoe collection has been purchased while out prepping for jobs and deciding that the current pair I had on wasn’t great with my outfit or was starting to become more than mildly uncomfortable.  These striped Banana Republic flats fall into the latter category.

I was visiting with Coco Rocha at the Mad Men x Banana Republic event a few weeks ago and we were chatting about the Oscar red carpet and all of the sixties-inspired dresses that were walking the carpet that night.  “That’s what I love about this decade, “ she said, “you can as into it as you like.  You can wear an entire sixties embellished gown or you can just wear a simple shift dress and both are on trend.” Well put, as usual.

I love this look, but would be worried about the shirt bunching up underneath the dress. How do you prevent that?

It actually wasn't a problem at all. Once I pulled it down from underneath the dress once, it stayed put.

I seriously *love* this dress. And I love how you layered it - I wouldn't have thought to do that!

This look is so cute! You might have convinced me to pull the trigger on that J.Crew dress.
