When we posted our last Her Style column two weeks ago, a very savvy reader pointed out to me that I have never answered my own Her Style questions. Good catch! Seeing as it is the fourth of July and all, I thought today would be a perfect opportunity to share my latest style column from CamilleStyles.com and my own Her Style insights! Also, be sure to check out my latest on-air segment on the Bethenny show that airs today! For channel and time information, click here.
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is preppy and classic with a twist. East coast, but with pops of color. I love anything that hits at my natural waist-- high-waisted pencil skirts and fifties inspired dresses. I always gravitate towards really drapey and flowy things (basically anything Lanvin!) but I know they aren't always the most flattering shape for me. I am such a sucker for Steven Alan button-front shirts and gingham anything!
Do you find that your style is influenced by your work or vise versa?
YES! So much so that I wrote this question! Obviously my personal aesthetic influences my styling, but I find the opposite is also true. When I was working on the Gap Be Bright campaign my style was color overload for about two weeks. Finally, Aaron staged an intervention. Likewise, I think my love affair with the button-front shirt began when I started working on the Ellen show for obvious reasons. I think we all have sponge-like qualities and absorb bits and pieces of what we are surrounded by.
Do you have a style icon?
I don't really have a style icon per say, but am heavily influenced by different moments. While 70's bohemian isn't my personal style, it is one of my favorite aesthetics to work in. I read The Beautiful Fall about Yves Saint Laurent's life and career when I was in college and it made a huge impact on me. Personally, I love that whole Audrey Hepburn in the actors studio moment. Give me a skinny ankle pant and a ballet flat any day!
Where are your favorite places to shop in your city?
I actually don't shop personally that often! I shop so much for work that it is hard to go shopping and not have it feel like work. I am such a J. Crew girl it's not even funny. I adore Isabel Marant. If I am splurging it's going to be at A.P.C., Steven Alan, or Barneys. I wear Paige jeans almost exclusively. They just fit me so well! They have a store on Robertson now which is really convenient.
What is on your wish list for fall?
I like to invest in a couple pieces every season that I know I will have for years to come. I think this fall I am due for a new jacket. I wouldn't be opposed to a heavy wool cape. Maybe even something in a glen plaid or gingham? Whatever it ends up being, I am sure you will see it here eventually!
What is one piece of style advice you would give someone?
Be open to everything. Don't knock a trend or style until you've tried it. Just because someone tells you that you can't wear something doesn't make them right. Now if a couple people tell you that, they might be onto something 😉 Just kidding.. kind of. Above all, focus on the positive and what you love about your body. Make sure you are dressing to accentuate those features.
Now get outside and enjoy the holiday friends!
