There is something about this time of year that is so energizing. The sun is shining, the farmer’s markets are overflowing, and the feeling that school’s out for the summer is palpable. The week days are filled with the daily grind and motivated by the notion of sneaking off to the beach come Friday. While the last two months have been a blur of non-stop work, I am learning to squeeze in some simple pleasures when I get the chance. They have come in the form of a mid-day latte at a new coffee shop, a new NIKE tank that makes getting up to go to the gym in the morning just a teensy bit easier, or a 10 minute neighborhood walk amidst a serious shopping day. It sounds small, but these little treats have helped me keep my sanity these last couple of months. (These and Blair, our invaluable editorial assistant!)
On one such work day, I found myself on the east side grabbing a latte at Lamill and wandering the winding neighborhood streets that are nestled directly behind the restaurant. Every street was a jungle of bouganvillea branches, climbing ivy, and jungle green bushes that have been hedged into fortress-worthy walls.
It was a wonderful momentary escape in the middle of a busy day. I was so enamored that Kat and I came back the following week to shoot this look.
You would be right to think that this romper is certainly more trendy than my usual ensembles, but if you can’t have a little fun and step out of your usual box in the summer, when can you? This one is from Topshop.
What are your simple, summer pleasures?

I LOVE that romper! It looks so cute on you! I'm heading to Chicago next weekend, which also happens to be the nearest Topshop to me. You can be sure I'll be looking for this gem!

I LOVE your philosophy: after all, it's life's little pleasures that make our crazy day-to-day schedules bearable 🙂 I love nothing more than my mid-afternoon break with cappuccino and a paper, to savor a little moment of tranquility, to catch up on what's going on in the world and to make the transition between my two jobs. Oh, and have I mentioned that you look absolutely stunning in that outfit? It screams summer, plus the backdrop is really wonderful! Perfect choice!
Have a fabulous week, Jen!

Thanks, Ivana! I am going to have to try the newspaper out next time I need a quick moment. I bet it's nice to take your mind out of a busy day and really get some perspective on what's happening in the world. Thanks for the idea 🙂
