Her Style {Krystal}

Sep 12, 2012 ·

I love meeting people who, though they don't work in the fashion industry, have amazing style! Take Krystal here for example:  She works in health policy in Washington D.C. but also runs the blog The Feisty House and has such fun style!  Her style is unique and all her own so I wanted to get down to business and see what was inspiring her this season...
How would you describe your personal style?
Always a tough question! My style is probably best described as classic with a risk, plus a pinch of old-lady-chic. I love to wear classic silhouettes, but I will take risks with prints and colors, and for some reason, I've always loved big floral prints, lace, felt hats and spectacles...like my grandmas!
What sort of pieces are you most into lately?

In the past three weeks, I've bought 4 or 5 dresses. Dresses are so versatile, and they're perfect for Fall. Just through on some tights and a coat and you're done!

Where are your favorite places to shop?

I love Zara, Urban Outfitters and H&M. I shop at Forever 21 too; there are some real gems there at such low prices! I also like River Island and Dorothy Perkins because I know very few people, if anyone, will have on what I'm wearing. And whenever I'm in Adams Morgan in D.C., I always visit Violet Boutique.

Do you have a style icon?

I'm really into the "new" style icons of my generation, like Tamu McPherson, Solange Knowles and Miroslava Duma. I didn't really have a style icon growing up, but I think Phylicia Rashad is always so put together. People say I look like her too!

Do you find that your work influences your style or vice versa?
My style influences my work. Washington, D.C. can be a very conservative place for fashion and style, but I am notorious for wearing bright colors and mixed prints on the job. My day-to-day work can be very tedious, so I use my outfits to motivate me and get me out of bed in the morning! I wouldn't be as productive at work if I stuck to gray suits and white blouses every day.
What is on your wishlist for Fall?

Leather shorts, a new watch (either ceramic, horn or wood), and anything Kate Spade X Garance Dore.

What is one piece of style advice you would give someone?
Wear what feels good, even if you don't end up looking like everyone else. When you feel good in your clothes, people notice--you may end up inspiring someone else!
