The best way to describe Katie is to tell you that she is the opposite of a Mean Girl. She is the kindest, most inclusive person who is always looking to connect you to someone or bring you on board of her next big project or event. Katie is the uber-talented social media consultant behind the lifestyle communications company and blog, Modern Eve. She reigns from Dallas, but is here today to give us some insight into her great sense of personal style! (Special thanks to Sara Kerens for the BEAUTIFUL photos!)
How would you describe your personal style?
Modern chic. Feminine, but not girlie. Polished boho.
How has your personal style evolved over the years? What things have influenced that?
My style has definitely evolved over the years, but I wouldn't say that it's drastically changed. In recent years it's become more sophisticated, but I'll never be one to rock a power suit. Fun and comfort has always been important to me.
Do you find that your work influences your style or vice versa?
As a lifestyle blogger, my style greatly influences my work. I love dressing up, even when I don't have to. But comfort is also important to me. Working for myself allows me to make my own rules, which I love. My day to day personal style is greatly affected by the weather, my mood and the size of of the laundry pile.
What sort of pieces are you most into lately?
As the weather starts to cool, I am filling my closet with warm, oversized sweaters, preferably with extra long sleeves. I call them my hibernation clothes.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
Most of my basics come from Gap and LOFT. I love Zara and TJ Maxx for affordable trendy items; and I head to Neiman Marcus when I'm looking for a special splurge. But, if I had an unlimited budget, I'd buy all my clothes and accessories from Calypso St. Barth. I love everything they have.
What is your most recent fall purchase?
Earlier this month I bought a pair of Superga sneakers. They're perfect for lazy weekends and running errands.
Do you think that personal style is important? Does it affect other areas of your life?
I do think that personal style is important, but not necessarily that it needs to be a priority. Personal style is one of the best forms of self-expression. I choose colors, styles, prints, textures and trends that I love instead of worrying about what others are wearing.
What is one piece of style advice you would give someone?
Invest in quality basics. Things like jeans, t-shirts and neutral cardigans should fit your body well and be made to last. You'll feel better about yourself if your shirt is the right length and if you don't have to unbutton your pants after dessert.
