This image recently showed up in my Pinterest feed and it immediately took me back to my senior year of college. Before there was a Pinterest, there was a stack of magazines on my floor and a giant cork board on my wall that I would fill with what I thought were inspiring images. This photo (taken by Mario Testino) was published in the January issue of Vogue in 2006 right as I was getting ready to graduate and plotting my move to Los Angeles. I tore it out, pinned it (no, I really used an actual pin) onto the board and next to it pinned a caption that read “A Life Less Ordinary”. I’m not sure what the context was of those words, but they really resonated with me. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted my life trajectory to be at that point, but I knew I wanted to see interesting things and do interesting things and with that I packed up my Pinterest 1.0 board along with anything else that would fit in the back of my Mazda and headed west. Nine years later this picture can cross my computer screen and still evoke all of those same feelings. Kind of crazy, right? Here are some other things that came across my screen this week that felt inspiring, interesting or just fun… And just out of curiosity, are there images that do the same thing for you?
