On busy days, the low ponytail is my go-to hairstyle. It's fast and easy! I consulted one of my favorite Hollywood hair stylists to give it an update and she delivered with this twist– the double knotted low ponytail!
Kat is the story of internships gone right. She is proof that when you hustle and make yourself invaluable, your boss will keep you around no matter what. She continued to be my go-to gal on styling jobs as well as an associate editor on the blog for years after her stint as an intern. Now, she's also a super talented costume designer and stylist in her own right. Also, she was blessed by the hair gods and offered up her beautiful mane for this low ponytail hair tutorial. In keeping with our effortless chic mantra, we decided to do a few guides to easy, effortless hair when your short on time. I love this one because it's edgy and unexpected, but still feels fresh and pulled together. Here's how to get the look:
How do you wear a low ponytail?
A classic low ponytail should be secured ½" to 1" above the nape of your neck where your hairline ends. You can pull it slicked back and sleep or simply comb your hair back loosely with your fingers for a messy low ponytail look that's equally as classic. (It's also my personal favorite.)
1. First start with your hair down and create a middle part, as if you're going to create two pigtails. Next tie the hair in a knot like you would when tying your shoe, then instead of doing a bow, just get the 2 strands from the first knot and do the same for the second knot. Essentially your tying your hair into a double knot.
2. Once the knot is in place, secure any loose strands as well as the bulk of the knot with bobbi pins and spray with a flex hold hairspray.
This is a great style for second day hair, especially if you have fine hair because it will stay a lot easier and has more texture. If you need, begin by adding a little texture with product, (like Living Proof's Instant Texture Mist). If your hair is oily, add dry shampoo.
So easy, right? Here's to the new take on a low ponytail for the inner cool girl you know you are!
