Did you know that 70% of everything applied to your skin will be absorbed into your bloodstream within 28 seconds?! I have this wonderful friend who is always teaching me things like this and blowing my mind. We are really different in a lot of ways-- she's not on social media, like at all, and, hello, it's kind of my job. In that way, though, I think we stretch each other. She is always introducing me to some new idea or study and turning me on to new things. We were having coffee around this time last year and she told me about this little shop in Palm Springs called The Body Deli that sells all natural, raw superfood skin care products. I immediately fell in love and have been a total convert! I've always been interested in living a more green life, but I'm not always willing to sacrifice some of my fave products. So far, though, I haven't missed anything since changing my skincare routine. My beauty routine is another story. I called my friend, big-time Hollywood make up artist and green beauty expert, Dawn, to see if she would be willing to teach me. She recently launched a beauty blog, Pink Kale, that focuses all on beauty trends and tutorials using eco-friendly products. Here's what she loves for an every day look... (Oh and without further ado, my no make up before photos...!)
Skin
First off I primed Jen’s skin using the Devita Prim Corrective, its a light non greasy super smooth matte gel that makes a smooth base and helps the makeup stay on longer. $27.95

I used the Acure Organics eye cream for the under eye. Acure is a fantastic line of affordable and effective organic skincare and its available at Target and Whole foods.

Then I applied the Honest Everything Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in the ‘t- zone’ and began by blending it outward. I like to use a foundation brush to apply the base, just use a small amount then work it into the skin with the Beauty Blender sponge to get a smooth, flawless look and furthermore if you wet the beauty blender it helps the makeup to go on light. The Honest Tinted moisturizer provides a good amount of coverage and has non nano zinc oxide SPF, it covers like a bb cream but feels light on the skin and works perfect for daytime. $28, https://www.honestbeauty.com/
I then applied Honest Concealer Duo in Vanishing Vanilla which is infused with chamomile, calendula and jojoba oil to be moisturizing and calming. I like to use a brush to apply the concealer then to work it in the skin with my fingers. The two color concealer blend together nicely to cover red spots and it also works great under the eyes, a little of this product goes a long way. When concealing under your eyes go super light on the outer corner of the eye to avoid enhancing any wrinkles and to keep your youthful glow. $20, https://www.honestbeauty.com/
I actually love using this brush for foundation, its shorter than most regular foundation brushes and easier to control, Kjaer Weis Blush Brush, $40,http://kjaerweis.com/shop/
Eye
For this fresh day look we wanted to keep it super light. I used a little powder as a base on the lid then a touch of light taupe eyeshadow on the crease of the eye. We used the Living Nature mineral pressed eye shadow in Tussock and applied it with a Sappo Cosmetics crease brush. These brushes are great as they are cruelty-free taklon, synthetic allergy free fibers and sustainable bamboo handles.

I usually opt for a gel liner but when wanting to go for a more natural look the Vapour Organic Beauty Mesmerize Eyeliner works perfectly. You want to get right into the lash line and in between the lashes with the liner then smudge it out a bit so you don’t have any harsh lines and to help bringsout the lashes.
Vapour Organic Beauty Mesmerize Eyeliner, $20, http://www.spiritbeautylounge.
We used the 100% Pure Maracuja Mascara in Black Tea on the top lashes. This is one of the cleanest mascaras on the market and perfect for day use. Its 100% natural, 100% vegan, gluten free and colored with black tea leaves, berry cocoa pigment.

Cheek
I have been loving cream blush lately, I have to admit I used to be scared of using cream blush as I think many people are. But with the right brush its actually pretty easy to put on and it looks amazing and totally natural. I love the Kjaer Weis cream blush’s they are beautiful. For this light “iittle to no makeup look” I used the Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Sun Touched its a super pretty coral toned blush, $56, http://kjaerweis.com/shop/
The Modern Mineral Duo Fiber Skunk Brush works perfect to apply cream blush. You want to apply it with a super light touch. $25,http://modernmineralsmakeup.
I like to wait till after the cream blush is applied to set the makeup with a little powder. I just lightly touch of the Alima Pure pressed mineral foundation for this, it goes on really beautifully. Its also good for touch ups on the go. $34, http://www.alimapure.com/
Lip
I always start off doing makeup by prepping the lips, the Hurraw Lip Balm is a favorite of mine its vegan, goes on beautifully and has a great price point.http://www.hurrawbalm.com
Then I wait until I’ve completed everything else before applying the lip color. I don’t really use a lipliner most times but if you do need one and like using it, Living Nature has a great natural lip liner. http://www.livingnature.com/
Burts Bees has new Lip Crayons that are full coverage matte and go on really beautifully. We used the Sedona Sands color for a light day look.

BRIGHTER LIP:
Its always fun to add a little pop of color to your lips, it’s an easy way to switch up your look with out having to do to much. ILIA makes some super beautiful lipstick colors and they are all organic and non-toxic which makes them even better. For the second look we used the ILIA Lip Conditioner in Jump which is a beautiful magenta lip color. http://iliabeauty.com/
The Z Palette is the perfect eco friendly makeup tool as it helps reduce waste and keeps our makeup all organized and in one place. I have mine filled with eyeshadows from, Sappho, Kjaer Weis shadows and Living Nature.

What a great post! I've been looking for more natural alternatives to replace my (likely) chemical-ridden favorites and hadn't previously heard of some of these brands. Thank you for sharing!

Same! I love how knowledgable Dawn is about brands I would have never otherwise been aware of... now to slowly make the switch!

I hadn't heard much about Honest Beauty before, I'm so glad you like it so much because I absolutely adore the brand and agree - it's hard to find great natural skin and beauty products without feeling like you have to sacrifice on performance.

Dawn is the best with green beauty products! I personally haven't tried Honest Beauty beyond our shoot with Dawn, but she raves about it, so I will definitely have to check it out!
