My Style || The Basic Button Up

Dec 5, 2016 ·

I learned something from my very first styling job that has stayed with me ever since, and even influenced my own personal style. When it comes to style, there's something to be said for knowing what you like and what works for you and going for it.  You can re-invent the wheel in terms of updating the silhouette with current trends, the fabric, the details, but when it works, it just works.  Take a button up shirt, for example: I've worn one here in the summer, here for a super casual look, here for a super femme Valentines get up, and here with my favorite new coat.  The button up shirt is a shirt for the people!  Any style, any season, you can make it work for you.  I own very little green-- maybe none besides this shirt-- but enjoyed the subtle departure from my normal black, white, gray, and blue color palette.  It's festive, don't ya think?  Paired with black cropped pants and my very worn brown ankle booties, it's casual enough for errands, but tailored enough for meetings and lunch dates.  What's your go-to piece in your closet? (More of my fave button ups rounded up at the end of this post.)

Also, random side note, I'm so glad my hair  is kind of long again! It's been fun to be able to do new things with it.
