I (Blair) am probably the most biased person when it comes to talking about St. Louis, Missouri. I was born and raised in this Midwestern city, otherwise known as the Show Me State. That nickname makes perfect sense – it just has so much to offer! One of the only things people remember about STL is the arch. While it represents “The Gateway to the West,” St. Louisans don’t spend too much time hanging at this attraction. I am guilty of only going up in the arch one time in the entire 18 years of living there… but there are so many other things I am full of knowledge about when it comes to St. Louie…
Check into your hotel in downtown St. Louis, Hilton at the Ballpark. After a long day of traveling, take the elevator up to the 360 rooftop bar and enjoy a local Schafly seasonal beer while taking in the amazing view. Take it easy tonight, you have a jam packed weekend ahead of you!
Wake up and smell the coffee. Grab a cup of brew at the coffee shop in the lobby while heading out for the day. Make sure to bring all of your belongings because you won’t be seeing your hotel room for many hours!
First, we are going to start off at the Budweiser Brewery Tour. It is not only FREE, but you can have three samples at the end of the tour! There is also a brand new biergarten on the grounds that I have yet to try – but please go and get back to me!
For lunch, you must, must try some Imo’s Pizza. The square (slices) are beyond compare along with a side of St. Louis famous Toasted Raviolis. Jon Hamm was just raving about this ‘Za, so you know it is a winner.
Before heading back to the hotel to get ready for your big night, make a stop at The St. Louis Zoo. Nested in the middle of Forest Park, this is hands down one of the best + free zoos in the country! Whether you are with your best friends, your husband/wife, or kiddos, this will be a favorite for anyone in the family.
Tonight is what St. Louis is all about. In walking distance of your hotel is Busch Stadium – home of Cardinals baseball. If you live in St. Louis, the love of baseball is in your blood. Indulge in all of the overpriced beer and hot dogs the stadium has to offer! And make sure to wear Red or you will stick out like a sore thumb.
Travel to the Loop this morning before you are homeward bound. Eat lunch at Fitz’s and drink one too many root beers. Walk around this edgy part of town… and even venture to Washington University down the street to marvel over the beautiful campus. You will wish you attended this college (if your grades would allow you to get in!)
I hope you enjoyed your weekend in my lovely hometown! Isn’t the Midwest just marvelous?
