Spring’s New Stripes

I am so happy to be back in sunny California today!  I had a wonderful time in Australia and made some unforgettable memories, but there truly is no place like home.  One trend I saw repeatedly over the last couple of weeks is this new spin on the classic stripe.  Forget what you thought you knew about stripes.  Unlike their Saint-James-esque counterparts, these stripes are wider, bolder and not in the least bit nautical.  They were up and down the … +more

Her Style {Brandyn}

Brandyn Raymond is hands down one of my favorite Austinites.  We met while at the University of Texas, both of us were in the Textiles and Apparel program, but Brandyn was by far the best dressed of anyone in our class.  For this reason, and other more significant ones, I made it a point to befriend her.  While she currently shows off her stylish side as the marketing coordinator in the office of the governor, she also finds time to … +more

Color Palette {Chevron}

  Good morning, friends!  How were your weekends?  After a lovely few days strolling around Charleston and taking in the beautiful colonial architecture, I was in the mood for something a bit more modern and graphic this morning; these black and white chevron stripes for example.  I love the way patterns in general are able to add an element of interest without introducing new colors to a look or a room, but my favorite part about the chevron stripe is it’s … +more

Wardrobe Essentials

While I don’t do personal styling very often, I have had a handful of clients ask me to come over and assess the situations in their closets.  Like any situation, its always helpful to have an outside perspective who can look objectively at that crazy crocheted poncho you have had for 12 years but can’t bare to part with for sentimental reasons.  (Those things go in a pile labeled “Only around the house on the weekends”.)

  Likewise, sometimes its … +more

More or Less

There seem to be two very distinct factions of style in play right now.  One plays by the rules that there are no rules.  The more patterns, the more colors, the more accessories the better.  The other is decidedly more minimal and classic.  Think Narciso Rodriguez or The Row in contrast to Kate Spade or J.Crew.  Neither is right, just a difference in preference of personal style.  Which do you prefer?

Guest Room Makeover

You know what is such a luxury to me?  A guest bedroom.  For the last six years that I’ve lived in LA, my sweet friends and family have either slept on an air mattresses or booked hotel rooms while visiting.  Don’t get me wrong, they have been real troopers about it but that’s why I am so glad to finally be able to offer them an actual room. Which is precisely why I am obsessed with making it perfect!  Below … +more

{Not So Mellow} Yellow

Remember last week when we made meyer lemon bars together?  Well they were so good they are still inspiring me this week!  I have been finding myself gravitating towards pops of yellow lately.  I love the bright contrast of yellow against white and the more subtle pairing of yellow and gray.  Most importantly it is just so sunny and optimistic!  How could you possibly be in a bad mood if you look down and your shoes are bright, sunshiney yellow?!… +more
