Set The Table // Mixed Prints

Setting The Summer Table

If spring was made for cleaning, then summer was certainly made for entertaining.  The days are long and warm and begging to be filled with good friends and great food.  If a dinner party or al fresco fete is on your summer agenda, consider a bohemian, mixed-print tabletop for a look that is equal parts easy and stylish.  The best part is, it’s easy to mix and match all of your favorite pieces and you don’t have to have a dozen pieces all in the same setting.  Let’s get started!

First, the tablecloth.  I love the soft colors and intricate print of this one.  If you’re dining outdoors and your table is not so easy on the eyes, a great tablecloth makes sure that stays your little secret.  For depth, add a runner.  Since we have a tablecloth, there’s no need for placemats, but I do think chargers add a little something to a table.  These rattan ones from Target were made for summer entertaining!  For your plates, play with prints and colors and layer a salad plate on top of a large dinner plate, atop the charger.  I chose blue swirls, yellow polka dots, and this beautiful latin-feeing floral number.  Next add your cocktail napkins and dinner napkins.  No need for them to match either.  We’re mixing prints, remember?  Now atop that dinner napkin, add your flatware.  (Target now makes gold flatware, hooray!)  Atop your cocktail napkin, add this geometric water glass and set one of these gold cuties next to it for the cocktail du jour.  Each place setting gets a place card.  Always separate couples for much more interesting conversation.  For the center of your table, keep things low but interesting.  I love these vases from Furbish Studio.  Add some organic elements to the table by filling them with flowers or add a couple baskets or bowls of lemons or limes.  Super easy and totally effortless chic!
