On Friday, we will have officially been in Austin for 7 weeks– which is crazy, by the way. In some ways it still feels like we are just visiting– probably because 90% of our things are still in boxes and will be until our house is ready to move into. It’s a disorienting thing to take your roots out of their current location and plant them somewhere new, more so than I expected. You have to figure out your new routines and schedules and go-to-places. Personal things like where do you grab dinner quick if you haven’t planned something? And then the work things like who are the best photographers? Production assistants? Where should we go to shoot posts? But we are 7 weeks in now and there are systems in place like google documents to keep track of our house progress and writing / prepping / shooting schedules that are allowing me to feel like we are getting back to business. It feels like we are getting our legs back underneath us and not just surviving. Speaking of house progress, we have been trying to make as many decisions as possible now, before we break ground, so that when Aaron is on the road and I’m knee deep in a shoot, we aren’t scrambling to make a decision that we’re not sure about. One of the first things that came up was obviously hardware. It will affect our door handles, light fixtures, faucets, and beyond, so it’s an important one and kind of sets the tone for the rest of the house. My first choice was brass, to which Aaron said no way, José. His first choice was chrome, to which I said in your dreams. The compromise? Matte black hardware! We both love it and it mixes well with other elements of the house and decor things that we’d like to do. We actually wanted to do it in our master bathroom in LA when we renovated, but there wasn’t a huge selection then. Lucky for us, it’s been pretty easy to find so far! What do you think? Is the matte black hardware too much black? What type of hardware is at the top of your list?
