Two weeks ago today, Aaron and I were waking up in Charleston, South Carolina for the first time. It may not be Bali or Tahiti, but it has been on my list of must visit places for quite some time. Needless to say, I woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed the first morning, ready to see the sights! Our day started with a walk to Hope & Union for a delicious morning latte, some shopping on King Street where, moved by the southern beachy atmosphere, Aaron picked up a pair of Sperrys and I a dress from the Billy Reid store, and back to the Charleston Place Hotel for a little pool time on the roof. The food and cocktails were so southern. Honey butter & biscuits, mouth-watering barbecue, and collard greens prevailed at just about every stop, as did the mint juleps and spiked Arnold Palmer number that I am dying to replicate.
WHERE TO STAY
After staying at the Charleston Place hotel, it is the only place I will ever stay there. The bed’s were cozy, food delicious, but it was the view from the rooftop pool and bar that were really unbeatable. Not to mention it is right in the middle of the city and where you want to be. Be sure to take a stroll down King Street to the Battery and check out all of the historic homes along the way as well as the view of the ocean that will greet you at the end of your journey. That was my favorite thing we did in the whole city!
WHAT TO PACK:
Charleston is balmy in the summer, as I am sure you may have guessed, so keep the fibers natural, the clothes minimal, and focus on the accessories (and sunscreen!). Oh, and this is a walking city, so keep that in mind when packing footwear– or just agree to cab it.
Want to really get away? Be sure to stop at one of the plantations outside of the city to see the real southern charm. Breathtaking!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Would love to hear what you are up to!
