Sophisticated

Years ago, while I was still in school, I visited LA with my best friend on a total whim.  We bought flights just a couple days before departing, ditched a few classes, and headed west.  We rented a car and stayed in a very questionable hotel somewhere in Hollywood.  I am pretty sure that no amount of money could get me to step into that hotel today.  The “Jeans and T-shirt” movement had just begun and every cool blonde west … +more

Crisp White Shirt

With so many new trends on the horizon, the task of updating your wardrobe can certainly be daunting.  Yesterday while at lunch, I was asked the question, “If I could only buy one new thing, what should it be?”  After mulling it over,  this is my conclusion:

Invest in a crisp, white tailored shirt.  Classic.  Effortless.  Chic.  Jil Sander does amazing shirts with an array of different collars.  If that is a little out of your price range, try Banana … +more

Wedding Blog

It was bound to happen.  I have a blog and I got married.  We just saw a few of the pictures late last night (most of them won’t be in for weeks), so here is the inevitable:

My Wedding Blog!

Don’t worry.  I will let the pictures do most of the talking and save you the “lemon fondant icing” details.  But first, I will show you these somewhat lackluster pictures (Aaron is clearly the only photog in the family) I … +more

Wall Street Womenswear…

A little unknown fact for your morning: I am a little bit of a total business nerd.

In school I was the fashion major who was also in the business foundations program sitting awestruck in Finance 101.  Last week I boarded a plane to Europe with Fast Company and Forbes as well as Vogue and Bazaar.  Bankrate.Com is on my top viewed websites and the last book I finished was Maria Bartiromo’s The 10 Laws of Enduring Success.  It … +more

By Way of Spain…

Hello, again!  It’s been awhile, I know.

The month of May was non-stop between wrapping work on American Idol and The Ellen DeGeneres Show and planning a June wedding and honeymoon.  Needless to say, I needed to take a short break from Effortless Chic.  Not to worry, though!  The combination of many hours on a plane spent perusing foreign magazines and days of wandering the unfamiliar streets of Spain and the Mediterranean produced an incredible time of creativity and … +more
